By reservation only for Fri – Sun, Ray’s The Bar offers (with alternative vegan, vegetarian, pescatarian, and gluten free options upon request) an unique intersectional blend of Mediterranean cuisine, Southern-Americana, Jewish cuisine, Barbecue, and Middle Eastern style cuisine. Berkeley Springs sports a legitimate castle built in the 1800’s which overlooks the copious natural hot springs. Both are clearly visible in the winter (a surreal experience, watching the steam rise as you look across the park, and up the hill at the castle). Our establishment is right at the side of the hot springs with gorgeous window views overlooking it all. Thus, Berkeley Springs is a multicultural destination with visitors from all over the world in our small, quaint, yet eccentric town. Ray’s does serve wine & beer (and signature creations such as the Guinness Milkshake) although we do not serve spirited cocktails at this time; however, if a spirited cocktail is up your alley? We HIGHLY recommend taking a walk (literally) around the corner after you leave Ray’s to visit our good friends at The Naked Olive Lounge. Sporting a gorgeous interior design, and open to the late night crowd, they’ve got you covered for spirited cocktails, also offering a wide variety of decadent foods as well. That said, if you passed on our cheesecake with blueberry compote (fresh, hand picked from the 50+ blueberry bushes in Mama Trey’s private garden) for dessert at Ray’s, The Naked Olive will have you in good hands with their Salted Caramel Vanilla Crunch Cake. You’re allowed to cheat on us with other restaurants. It’s okay =] Despite boisterous, energetic atmospheres can be fun at times, Ray’s, The Bar offers an intimate, cozy atmosphere and highly personal dining experience. Tables for two, large banquets, and any guest size in between are welcome. And, with Berkeley Springs being a multicultural destination with visitors from all over the world in our small, quaint, yet eccentric town, Ray’s, The Bar’s menus (which change weekly) were created by having conversations with those we’ve met in town upon asking them what sentimental foods remind them of home. Comfort, sentiment, and solidarity is a feeling we all know in our own way. Then, those memories from that intimate conversation are channeled through Mama Trey’s strengths with her Jewish, Southern American roots, and Chef’s well traveled, learned abilities. Our result is a highly diverse menu that plays to our strengths, yet bridges the gap to the conversations centered around home with those who visit or live near The Springs. All of the above are critically important for us as our establishment is named after a beloved local figure, and good friend of Mama Trey’s, one Mr. Ray Goodman. He shared Abraham Lincoln’s distinctive traits, and so Mr. Goodman would fashion himself in Lincoln’s image, spending much of his last decade in The Springs. Who can resist seeing a man resembling the beloved Abraham Lincoln walking around steaming hot springs, overlooked by a castle, and not want to speak with him? That was Ray’s game. He would then teach people about how The Springs bring varied peoples together, and the healing properties of both The Springs themselves as well as the healing properties of the solidarity found in good conversation with people you wouldn’t have spoken with otherwise. He was an advocate of health and healing right up through his 89th year, and we miss him dearly. In honor of his memory we developed our name sake, our company values, our menu, and our atmosphere. Locally Sourced:
Nearly everything we serve is locally sourced whether we’re picking it up from CGM across the street to the older couple who comes by to deliver our flats of eggs we buy from them, or the blueberries for our compote fresh, hand picked from the 50+ blueberry bushes in Mama Trey’s private garden. Her entire philosophy is for the actions that Ray’s (and her other establishments) take to uplift other areas of the local economy.
