West Virginia is abundant in resources—and I’m not talking about coal, gas, and timber. Nestled in these misty mountains is a proud heritage of thriving on the rich soils, endless streams, and wild flora and fauna. And the most cherished resource of all remains the people who are self-imposed stewards of these lands; those who spend their days farming, growing, producing, and creating real food for all of us.
As the Mountain State, many of our family farms cling to rugged hillsides along winding back roads not taken without intention. Rural farmers markets toil to provide fresh, local food to their neighbors, but don’t have the time to develop a marketing campaign to get the word out. Ag-ventures have added variety to West Virginia’s menu of recreational opportunities, and local eateries continue to pop up, offering inspired takes on the culinary traditions of the mountaineer.
Building Awareness and Community
For over a decade, FarmFreshWV.com has been a community hub with one simple goal: to help West Virginians and visitors find and experience these resources.
The award-winning “Better Food” campaign was born of a collaboration between Verglas Media, the West Virginia Food and Farm Coalition, and the West Virginia Farmers Market Association, and initially funded by the USDA. When original grant funds closed, the WV Food and Farm Coalition continued to support and grow FarmFreshWV.com in partnership with Verglas Media.
A New Chapter
In 2026, FarmFreshWV enters a new chapter. As the funding landscape has shifted greatly, the West Virginia Food and Farm Coalition is no longer able to underwrite the site. Rather than letting the community of over 500 members dissolve, Verglas Media has taken ownership. We’re grateful for everything we built together, and we look forward to continuing to work with both the WVFFC and the WVFMA to promote this valuable resource. From the beginning, as we crafted the commercials for the initial campaign, this project has always been extremely personal. Family and food go hand in hand, and we are often quick to take both for granted.
So this 2026 season is all about accuracy and awareness! We need your help keeping the listings up to date, adding new resources, and sharing this site on your social media platforms.
